92nd St. Y Series: Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg
Ruth Bader Ginsburg was nominated by President Clinton as associate justice of the United States Supreme Court in June 1993, and took the oath of office in August 1993. She was a professor of law at Columbia University and earlier served on the law faculty at Rutgers. She has also taught at many other law schools in the U.S. and abroad. In 1971, she was instrumental in launching the Women’s Rights Project of the American Civil Liberties Union. Throughout the ‘70s, she litigated a series of cases solidifying a constitutional principle against gender-based discrimination. (Previously recorded presentation)
